Kavi Sammelan: A brief report

By Anoop Bhargava

The first evening of  World Brahman Federation Convention started with a fun-filled and stimulating evening of  poetry. Kavi Sammelan was coordinated by Anoop Bhargava and was attended by more than 200 people. Under its
community outreach program, WBF invited  the Indian community from the NJ area to participate in the Kavi Sammelan. The community responded to the invitation whole heartedly and a large number of enthusiasts turned up at the Kavi Sammelan including those who were not attending the convention.

Kavi Sammelan started with prayer by Shekhar Shastri which was followed by beautiful geet sung by Dr. Anita Dubey. Abhinav Shukla was undoubtedly the star of the evening. Coming from Seattle , he entertained the audience with his witty ,funny and serious poems. He showed a lot of promise for a poet of his age. Dr. Vinod Tewary from Boulder , CO entertained the audience with his ‘Pravaasi Geet’ and then later on with his ‘Aavasi Geet’. He also recited some of his ‘couplets’. Other poets who took part were Prof Ramanath Sharma, Dr. M.G. Prasad, Mr. Mishra, Raminder Kaul , Shekhar Shastri , Ghanshyam Gupta, and, yours faithfully, Anoop Bhargava.

All the good things must come to an end, Kavi Sammelan finished around 1:00 am in the morning making it a one of the most memorable Kavisammelans in New Jersey .
